If you prepare you probably enjoy your vacation even more. Well prepare before that great time so your printer will be ready for off time and you don’t have to spend more on new printer ink or even a new printer upon your return. Follow the following easy steps:

Step 1: Shut Down Properly - By turning your printer off using the power button and not just yanking the power cord you’ll let the printer go through its shutdown cycle that parks the print head and seals the ink cartridge. If you do so you’ll prevent the ink cartridge from drying out.

Step 2: Remove your Ink Cartridge if printer will be off for a long time. - If printing is not going to be required for an extended period of time the best thing to do is to remove the ink cartridge from the printer. Place the cartridge in a container or air tight plastic bag in a dry and dark place standing up right for the entire time until you come back.

Step 3: Clean your printer but don’t be a clean freak.- If you are going to use the printer maintenance options from the printer do it once and wait. If you do it repeatedly you’ll cause more harm than good. Make sure you clean dust and leave it covered so dust doesn’t go into the printer heads and nozzles that might clog up while you have fun.

Step 4: Leaving for longer than a month? Get a Printer Sitter - Really if you can get someone come and turn on your printer and print off at least one page every other week you’ll save your printer for back to work or school. If you are going home for vacation from School, maybe you can find out who is staying and ask for them to turn her on and print.

Step 5: Prepare for your return.- Make sure you have plenty of paper and replacement cartridges to start printing right away when you come back. Remember that you can keep cartridges sealed and stored ready to print for as long as a year.
